The Board adopted a resolution recognizing September 2026 as National Suicide Prevention Month and heard multiple local advocates describe activities and resources aimed at prevention.
The Space Coast Health Foundation's president and CEO said Brevard has “one of the highest suicide rates in Florida,” citing a rate of more than 17 per 100,000, and urged community supports and asking residents to "be there for someone who is visibly distressed." Local nonprofit leaders—Kelly Haskins of Do It For Hunter and Kristen Wherry of 211 Brevard—described community events, survivor-led outreach, volunteer opportunities, and 988/211 crisis contacts (211 reported nearly 43,000 contacts last year with about 5,400 related to 988 or mental-health/crisis referrals).
Speakers asked for continued county support and highlighted an upcoming community event, You Matter Day. The Board thanked presenters and moved on to subsequent agenda items.
