In the meeting’s citizen-comment period, Garland community leaders urged support for a local ballot measure they said is vital to maintain recent capital improvements and support continued growth.
Paul Mayer, a 37‑year Garland resident and longtime CEO of the Garland Chamber of Commerce, called for an enthusiastic “yes” vote and said council and staff have created momentum the city should sustain. Wesley Johnson, another long-time resident, echoed that endorsement and linked the measure to maintaining new city assets and services funded by recent bond programs.
Their remarks were complimentary of the council’s agenda and framed the measure as a grassroots effort by businesses and citizens to preserve Garland’s trajectory of economic development. No council discussion occurred on items outside the posted agenda during the comments period, per Texas Open Meetings Act rules.
