Councilors reviewed a request from MBF organizers seeking extensive support including 25–30 hotel rooms for visiting teams, meals, umpire services, transportation assistance and a $5,000 contribution. Several council members said the monetary and lodging requests were excessive and unlikely to bring significant tourism.
Councilmember (speaker 6) moved to approve support only if organizers agreed to the city’s previous approach—providing the field, staffing gates and concessions, and cleanup—rather than the expanded package. Director Lopez (speaker 9) told council that the prior model involved field prep, staffing gates and concessions (sometimes delegated to nonprofits) and estimated roughly $4,000–$5,000 in field maintenance and overtime costs. The council voted to approve support under that prior in-kind arrangement and directed staff to proceed; if organizers return with the larger request, council will revisit it.
