Amy Jarbo, presenting for the Kansas Roots movement, described the proposed Buffalo Flats 345 kV overlay and said the Kansas share of the project could be about "493,000,000". She warned that new lines and easements could depress land values, limit future land uses and affect livestock and human health, urging residents to write to Evergy and the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) and join coordinated opposition.
Residents and commissioners discussed options including county letters, participation as intervenors in the KCC docket, and legal challenges. Commissioners repeatedly cautioned that the county lacks statutory authority to unilaterally block transmission lines and said intervention or litigation would be costly; staff offered to facilitate coordination with neighboring counties and to report back on possible intervention logistics.
