At a recent town council meeting, drawings for an East Ferry ticket booth and an ADA toilet were presented; the commission was told CRMC (Coastal Resources Management Council) has signed off on work related to the old ferry landing. Executive Director Jim Hegney said the town plans to clear riprap from the old ferry landing and begin construction at the end of the ferry season, with preliminary work in October.
Hegney made clear the pump-out device must remain available during the summer season and that the pump-out shed likely will not be altered until the ferry-landing work is fully complete. He also said the costs for the East Ferry ticket booth and related work will not come from harbor funds but from lease monies generated by town leases. "So by October, the town will begin working on clearing off the riprap from the old ferry landing deck in anticipation of then building out that structure anew," Hegney said, and noted CRMC approval had been obtained.
Next steps: Hegney will circulate the drawings to commissioners; construction is slated to start after the ferry season and coordination with the harbor master will be required so pump-out services remain uninterrupted.
