The Heard County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 16 unanimously approved a special-use permit allowing Brandon Harmon to operate a wedding and event venue at 3338 Hwy 34 in Franklin.
Dustin Pate, speaking on behalf of the Planning Commission, presented the application and said the commission recommended approval with conditions. Applicant Brandon Harmon told the board that "his intention is to conclude events by 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays," that he and his wife will be on the property during events to oversee operations, and that the driveway has been relocated in compliance with Georgia Department of Transportation requirements. Harmon also told commissioners that no alcohol will be served and no food will be prepared on the premises.
Commissioner David Walls moved to approve the application with the Planning Commission's conditions; Commissioner Larry Hammond seconded. The conditions adopted by the board include adherence to the Planning Commission's conditions, proper signage, traffic control measures, Georgia D.O.T. approval for the relocated driveway, and a prohibition on alcohol at events. The motion passed unanimously.
The decision allows the special use to proceed subject to the stated conditions; the county will rely on the Planning Commission's monitoring and any required D.O.T. approvals before events commence.
