Onley council hears progress update on new town office; architect expects permit drawings

Jamye Salazar, Onley town manager, updated the council on the town office construction project, saying the committee met with Becker Morgan Group and reviewed drawings that include roof, ceiling, furniture/finish plans and exterior elevations. She told council that a completed survey and information from the Bundick property reduced anticipated site work costs by about $4,180.

"The building has everything that we need but it is not extravagant, which is what our goal is at this time," Salazar said. She said the next set of drawings should be permit drawings at roughly 65% completion; a date for the next meeting with the architect has not been set. Council members on the committee — Daniel Bloxom and Rodney Lang — agreed with Salazar’s assessment and thanked staff for coordinating the meetings.

Council members asked staff to continue coordinating with the architect on stormwater management and the exact location of the well; Salazar said the team is working to resolve a remaining small issue about the well location. The council did not take formal action on construction funding at the Aug. 3 meeting but did review a new "Town Office Construction Budget" report as part of the Treasurer's materials.

The project remains in the design and permitting phase; town leaders indicated they will return to council with permit drawings and any formal requests for construction funding or contract awards when designs are finalized.
