Onley Police Chief E.J. Long presented the department’s monthly reports and credited Officer Owen Lewis with revising the department’s daily logs to provide clearer reporting. Chief Long said a recent Facebook post wrongly accused an Onley officer of involvement in an incident; after he contacted the poster she issued a corrective follow‑up post and said she may file a Freedom of Information Act request. Chief Long said he is preparing for that possibility.
Chief Long also described a social media advertisement calling for a takeover at the Onley Royal Farms. Police prepared by having roughly 20 officers in attendance from cooperating agencies, but no one appeared and there were no incidents. He thanked Accomack County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and the Virginia State Police for assistance. Chief Long also reported he inspected used vehicles offered for sale by another locality and did not find suitable options; he discussed vehicle window tinting for protection of in‑car equipment and noted three of the town’s five patrol vehicles already have tinted windows.
Council members praised the new report format and Chief Long’s coordination with regional partners. Councilman Jason Campbell commended the chief for preparedness and transparency in responding to the social‑media allegation.
