The McPherson County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 14 approved Resolution 2026‑23 to establish all‑way stop control at two county intersections: Old 81 & Arrowhead Road and Old 81 & 22nd Avenue. Public Works presented a Kansas TEEP (Traffic Engineering Assistance Program) study that recommended converting both intersections to 4‑way stops as a countermeasure to reduce t‑bone crashes after multiple fatalities in the area.
Public Works Director Dave explained the work would include new stop signs, flashing red lights at the approaches and rumble strips, with a preliminary cost estimate not to exceed $28,175. Commissioners discussed coordination with the sheriff's office and local jurisdictions to monitor compliance when the signs are installed. Speaker 2 read the draft resolution (Resolution 2026‑23) and the board approved the motion and adopted the resolution by recorded voice.
The resolution directs McPherson County Public Works to install and maintain regulatory signs and related traffic control devices in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and KDOT standards. Staff said they will publicize the change and allow 30–45 days of notification prior to installation.
