The Franklin County Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Bonnie Law to fill the vacant Boone District seat at a special meeting Friday, Sept. 11. Chair Sherry Smith announced the selection and congratulated Law before the board recessed to return to open session.
The board chair described a qualitative review of applicants and thanked those who applied. "So the board, unanimously has chosen miss Bonnie Law, and, we are very confident and excited, to have, miss Lawes in our audience," Chair Sherry Smith said, congratulating the appointee and noting next steps would follow. The board indicated the appointment is interim and will remain in place until a special election in November 2027; the chair said a press release announcing the decision would be issued soon.
The nomination was made during the open portion of the special meeting and approved by roll call. The board scheduled a swearing-in to occur before its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 2:30 p.m., and the chair asked the appointee to meet with her after the session to complete formalities.
The appointment fills the Boone District vacancy; the board did not discuss policy changes tied to the appointment during the open session. The decision followed an executive-session personnel review under the state statutory exemption cited by the board.
