The Escondido Library Board of Trustees heard Thursday that the library's reopening drew a large community turnout and that programming and usage have jumped since the renovation. Dan, the library director, told trustees "we did have over 700 people in attendance for that day" at the ribbon-cutting and mural dedication.
The director said June visits to the Pioneer Room spiked to about 2,000 while the library was operating from a temporary mall location. New activity spaces for tweens and teens are already well used, and staff described strong attendance across children's programs. Dan highlighted recent programs including a sewing class supported by an "empower access" grant and a donation for supplies from Balthazar Rio the 3rd.
Trustees praised the reopening and noted community interest referenced on local social channels. The board asked staff to prepare five-year high-level statistics and demographic breakdowns comparing the old and new libraries for presentation at the next meeting.
