The Iron County Commission voted to amend about 830 acres into the Iron Springs Inland Port project area to enable further discussions and potential development related to Project Juniper.
A representative of the port authority (speaker 14) told commissioners the resolution does not bind the county to tax-sharing or development agreements but rather opens a formal path for negotiation. "These conditions... allow the commission to take the lead on these things, in the best interest of the citizens and the taxpayers in Iron County," the port representative said. The commission moved to approve Resolution 2026-4, contingent on adopting the attached schedule of conditions that require county review and explicit approval of any tax-sharing, developer agreements, or public infrastructure district expenses.
Marcus Keller (speaker 18), the county's municipal adviser, described edits that clarified the county's role and said the language aligned with the port authority's intent. Commissioners emphasized the need for continued county oversight and said any future agreements would include input from outside counsel or other expertise as needed.
