Town Council Liaison Hollingshead updated the appeals board on the Chateau Valley infill proposal, telling members the issue has prompted sustained public engagement in a long-established neighborhood.
"I think the Chateau Valley development is just really interesting to look at from a land use perspective and kind of the town responsibilities," Hollingshead said, describing the parcel as an infill property in an older neighborhood where many streets dead-end into an open area. He said the landowner has a residential zoning entitlement and the developer is preparing a new site development plan that will return to council review in the months ahead.
Hollingshead said the town declined the developer's initial site development plan and is weighing options. "We're gonna look at the cost or ability to buy some land for some additional open space possibly," he said, but added that purchasing all contested parcels is unlikely and the town must balance property rights and public benefit.
The liaison also noted that neighborhood advocates have been organized and well informed about possible changes and processes, and the council will review any future plan through the usual public-comment and site-plan process. The board did not take action on the project at this meeting.
