Tim Crosby returned during public comment to reiterate his opposition to FLOT cameras and similar surveillance technologies, telling the board he and other residents worry about a permanent record of private life.
"My concern is… mass surveillance in all of our communities," Crosby said. "There's no arguing that they would certainly help law enforcement, but it would help law enforcement to be able to [watch] anyone's house at any moment too." He acknowledged some law-enforcement benefits but said the community should weigh privacy harms.
Commissioners and other participants asked Crosby to clarify which aspects concerned him. The exchange included discussion about cellphone tracking and the limits of individual choices. No formal action or ordinance regarding cameras was proposed at the meeting; Crosby's remarks were recorded as part of public comment for future consideration.
