County public-works staff asked the board to approve local public agency engineering services agreements so multiple wooden-deck bridge projects can move from design to construction readiness. Staff said communities that had projects designed when the state released a large funding round were better positioned to win grants, and the county wants several bridges "on the shelf" and ready to bid.
The staff discussed specific projects including the Bowler Road Bridge (expected to begin mid-October) and other deck-bridge replacements and noted consultants are preparing proposals for engineering agreements. The board approved the motion to engage engineering services so the county can apply for state infrastructure funds when opportunities arise.
Commissioners stressed that readiness will help the county compete for discretionary state funds and avoid missing out when large investments are announced.
