Dr. O'Neil, the superintendent, told the Norton School Committee that 179 students sat for 401 Advanced Placement exams last May and the districtwide average score was 3.1.
"Last May, we had 179 students challenge themselves by taking 401 AP exams across 18 different subject areas, achieving an impressive district wide average score of 3.1," Dr. O'Neil said. He said 68 students earned AP Scholar designations and identified 13 seniors who had achieved a score of 5 on at least one exam.
The superintendent read the list of honored students and invited them to the student spotlight to receive certificates. He described the three College Board AP recognition levels (AP Scholar; AP Scholar with Honors; AP Scholar with Distinction) and noted that the graduating class of 2026 included multiple students with those distinctions.
The committee acknowledged the students' accomplishments and the presenter thanked families, staff and the awards organizers. The recognition was delivered during the student spotlight portion of the Sept. 9 meeting; the awards will be reflected in the district records and public recognition materials going forward.
