Principal Hicken delivered the opening-of-school remarks and introduced the "Lancer Way," a district initiative to align mission, vision and daily practices across grades.
"The Lancer Way gives us 6 things we can all work toward, lead, take charge of your learning and your own choices, adapt, respond positively to challenges and keep growing," Principal Hicken said, describing weekly video challenges that will be shown to students and staff over the next six weeks.
Hicken framed the initiative as an extension of PBIS and daily practices already present in classrooms, noting early-week activities and relationship-building exercises in the first days of school. He praised the PTO, staff and student participation in welcome events and said the videos are designed to invite students to show how each Lancer behavior looks in class.
The committee responded positively to the opening remarks and the planned rollout of classroom challenges; the superintendent and board members discussed how the goals align with the district strategic plan and principal-level objectives.
