During the public-comment portion, a resident said crews will start an INDOT-permitted lane restriction on Monday to perform work expected to take one day (with a contingency of two to three days). "They're planning on starting this on Monday. It should take just a day, but I would plan on 2 to 3 days for just in case something happens," the resident said while giving a letter for the record.
A staff member added the Hammond Port Authority requested the work to reduce vehicles leaving the roadway into the median and noted the city has a memorandum of understanding with the state for median maintenance; because the area is a state facility INDOT handles permitting and the work is informational for the board. Staff said through traffic will remain open while the westbound left lane will be closed during the work.
Why it matters: drivers and nearby businesses should be aware of a short-lived lane restriction next week on a state-owned facility; the item is informational on the record and requires INDOT-permit coordination rather than a city approval step.
