The Parker County Commissioners Court on Sept. 14 adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 17–23, 2026, as Constitution Week in Parker County and signed the document on the bench.
Chris Wood, speaking as a resident from Precinct 4 during consideration of the proclamation, told the court: "The 1st amendment to the US Constitution protects the rights of citizens to petition their government for a redress of grievances." He urged the court to consider whether current meeting practices give residents a regular opportunity to raise non‑agenda concerns and whether proclaiming Constitution Week is consistent with how the court conducts its meetings.
Judge Dean read the proclamation—including a reference in the text to "Public Law 915" as guaranteeing a presidential proclamation for the week—and the court approved the proclamation by voice vote. Beth Holz of the Weatherford chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution thanked the court for the proclamation and emphasized civic education and voting as duties of citizens: "It continues to serve as that foundation of our democracy."
The action was procedural and ceremonial; no policy change was adopted on public‑participation rules during the session. The resident's request that the court consider opportunities for non‑agenda public comment was recorded during this item.
