During its Sept. 4 meeting the Nebraska State Board of Education approved a series of oversight and accountability actions, including a special purpose agreement for the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility, multiple plans of correction, and priority school progress plans for individual schools.
The board approved the special purpose agreement for the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility after a motion was moved and seconded; roll-call vote was unanimous. The board also approved plans of correction for rule 10, 14 and 18 school systems and interim program schools; the discussion noted that six of the plans included gaps in media specialist and librarian staffing and that the board may consider updates to rules or regulations to address persistent staffing shortages.
Later in the meeting the board approved priority school progress plans for Baird Secondary School (Baird Public Schools), Scribner Snyder Secondary School (Scribner Snyder Public Schools) and Northwest High School (Omaha Public Schools). Each motion passed on roll call with unanimous support.
Why it matters: These actions advance compliance and improvement efforts for schools identified as needing additional oversight or support. The approvals authorize NDE staff to work with districts on implementation of plans and to monitor progress under the board’s accountability rules.
