The Lavaca County Commissioners Court voted Sept. 11 to appoint Chief Tim Decker as interim EMS director effective immediately, charging him to work with outgoing Chief Michael Burr through Oct. 31 to transition duties. The motion to name Tim Decker interim was seconded and passed by voice vote.
The County Judge explained the need for an interim director to manage required audits and licensing activities — noting the transition process can take about 21 days and that federal processes such as DEA audits may be involved. “It takes about a 21 day process. There's a DEA audit. There's all kinds of things that can go and play,” the County Judge said when explaining the rationale for keeping the outgoing chief through Oct. 31 while naming an interim.
The judge asked Decker and the county auditor, Sheila, to meet immediately to assess any proposed budget changes so the court can consider them during the Sept. 15 budget and tax-rate hearings. Commissioners signaled support for a brief budget workshop prior to the formal adoption process.
