President Tucker and enrollment leaders told trustees Sept. 11 that Tennessee State University has experienced meaningful enrollment gains and recognized staff who contributed to the effort.
Eric Stokes, who led the presentation for the enrollment office, thanked registrar and admissions staff and outlined the workload behind the figures: large volumes of transfer-evaluation work and extensive outreach with local partners. "We graduated our largest class this year," Stokes said while describing the registrar team's role in ensuring students were cleared for graduation. Stokes also noted coordination with Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and the university's Slate-based recruitment tools as key contributors to recent yield.
Administrators said the enrollment improvement supports the university's ability to stabilize cash reserves if execution matches budget assumptions, but they emphasized continued work to retain students and address capacity. Trustees asked for future updates tying enrollment results to student-experience metrics (housing, counseling, academic support) and requested periodic reporting on those operational areas.
