Several Fort Bend residents and civic leaders spoke in favor of the proposed Project Crystal Sun during the board's public-comment period on Sept. 10, citing job creation, tax‑base diversification and student pathways. Erin Groff read a support letter and described economic and educational benefits; Jeremy Heath said adding large commercial valuation would shift tax burdens away from homeowners and create local jobs for graduates.
A counterpoint came from James Patterson, a former principal and county commissioner, who argued that if the same acreage were developed residentially it could produce 7,000–8,000 homes and roughly 12,000 students, requiring many more schools and transportation planning. Dom McCoy, mayor of Fulshear and chamber president, called the project "generational" and urged trustees to consider career pathways for LCISD students while doing due diligence.
