Several residents used the public-comment period to press the board about project siting and community impacts. Karen Hite asked why the new fire department would be located on a landlocked parcel and suggested an alternative 100-acre parcel in front of the battery energy storage site. “So they wanna build the new fire department, but once again, they're on a landlocked piece of property,” she said.
Other commenters referenced the recently-approved planning commission site plan for the battery energy storage project and urged the board to maximize community benefits from development. Supervisor Martin later said the township had begun the process of applying for a $2,000,000 community benefits grant tied to the development and that the board will monitor grant funds and the community host development agreement.
