Merle Long, identified in the meeting as the Carroll County dog warden, asked permission to hold an adoption event on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the requirements tied to a $4,000 award from Subaru USA and the ASPCA. The board approved the event by motion.
Long said the humane society will provide vaccinations and microchipping at low cost and that the award check had already been received: "As of right now, I've got the humane society who will be doing, 3 d shots for $10 a piece, and then they will also provide a microchip service for $30 a piece...We've already received the check, so I'm just fulfilling the obligation." He said the $4,000 will be split: $2,000 for spay/neuter for adopting dogs that live outside Carroll County and $2,000 for bedding and medical needs for dogs that require treatment. Commissioners moved, seconded, and carried approval to hold the event as described.
Long noted the event also serves longer-term pet program goals and hoped it would become an annual activity; he will provide materials to the county's local press.
