Board members raised concern about the remaining life of the county landfill and discussed how material from the proposed project could be reused on site. One member referenced an estimated remaining life: "you mentioned the 18 to 24, months that our current landfill has life in it." That estimate framed much of the urgency in the discussion.
The Chair and other members discussed soil and cover types recognized by regulatory authorities (DEQ) and the potential to repurpose recovered material as daily or intermediate cover. The Chair said of the material, "That's right. So we wind up, every year with something over 10,000 tons of cover material," underscoring the scale the board expects and why landfill operations and cover availability factored into the procurement conversation.
