The Lander County Board of Commissioners voted to approve an interlocal agreement with Guardian Flight LLC, doing business as Reach Air Medical Services, to provide 24/7 fixed‑wing air medical transport based in Battle Mountain.
Riley Little of Reach described the aircraft’s capabilities during the meeting, saying: "It is a fixed wing. It is weather and IFR capable." County EMS staff noted the service will be stationed in Battle Mountain but will serve the entire county and fly patients to the nearest appropriate facility — Reno, Elko, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Boise or farther as required. Commissioner discussion centered on coverage and whether the fixed‑wing solution met Lander County’s geography and weather needs; Reach emphasized speed and IFR capability as advantages over distant helicopter assets.
The motion to approve the interlocal agreement (effective Aug. 13, 2026–Aug. 30, 2027) passed by voice vote without recorded roll‑call. County leaders said the arrangement should cut the time between an EMS call and patient transport by reducing the need to wait for a distant aircraft to position to the county airport.
