The Pembroke Town Board approved a motion permitting the Pembroke Youth Association (PYA) to install a concrete pad and poles at the Town Park for future batting cages and carried the motion unanimously.
PYA members (Jared Smith, Margaret Johnson, Megan and Dan Mamak) told the board they plan to install one set of batting cages at a time because each set costs approximately $50,000. PYA reported it was awarded a Genesee Youth Bureau grant for approximately $12,000 that must be used by the end of September; they asked to use that grant to pour the concrete pad before the end of the year and to complete one set before spring 2027. The board requested additional documentation including proposals, insurance, budget details, rules for use and a written dedication of the finished installation to the Town.
Councilman Thomas Dix moved to approve installation of the concrete pad and poles; Supervisor Thomas Schneider seconded, and the motion passed 4–0. Supervisor Schneider said he will contact the town attorney to confirm whether prevailing-wage rules apply if PYA hires contractors for the work.
The minutes do not record a construction schedule beyond the grant timing and do not state whether town funding will be provided; the board asked PYA to return with requested information for final administrative review.
