Staff presented the Bluff View Cemetery Mausoleum District nomination, describing four family mausoleums (period of significance c.1897–1965) and a landscape that staff said shows uncommon grouping of masonry mausoleums for the state. The nomination package included comparative examples and a consultant-prepared statement of significance.
Katie (speaker 6), a certified architectural historian, raised detailed concerns about whether the resource meets district criteria, whether the documentation adequately ties the mausoleums to the cemetery landscape, and whether construction and subsurface details were sufficiently described. "I have a lot of qualms about voting in favor of it today," Katie said, arguing the nomination needed clearer statements about construction, interior access and the relationship of buildings to the landscape.
Staff and trustees agreed to a working session to allow Katie and preparers to review and edit the nomination before the board takes final action; the nomination was not approved at this meeting and will return for consideration after edits.
