During general public comment, Kalen Yates of Capehart Circle asked the council to consider an ordinance like Doraville’s Community Control of Police Surveillance (CCOPS) initiative to provide municipal guidelines for the use of automated license plate readers and other surveillance tools such as Flock cameras. Yates said such policies are intended not to eliminate safety technology but to create transparent rules that govern municipal use and community interaction when surveillance decisions are made.
Yates told council that Doraville is considering a CCOPS ordinance led by ACLU‑Georgia and said clear guidelines could protect the city and residents in cases of misuse or data theft. He also expressed enthusiasm for the Wood Acres Nature Preserve project and asked for timing updates. Council did not record action in response to the request during this meeting; the comment was entered into the public record for future consideration.
