Director Waite told commissioners the city's leased field-striping unit is unreliable and proprietary; staff requests two robotic field-striping units to improve reliability and reduce downtime. "We have a current unit. It's not serving our needs well. It's a leased product ... we are looking at basically swapping out what we had before and switching it with a purchased unit," Waite said.
Waite also proposed purchasing an infield groomer so higher-level laser grooming can be done in-house at Columbia Playfields, Horn Rapids and Badger Mountain Community Park; he cited a $63,000 lodging-tax funding request that lodging tax committee recommended for council review. On safety, Waite described installing an AED save station at John Dam Plaza using lodging-tax funds in coordination with the fire department; parks currently has three to four permanent stations plus a mobile unit for events.
