Staff reported that four of five purchased HOBO cellular weather stations have been installed or are ready for deployment and that the network will be integrated with Cornell Ag program data through a partnership with Dan Olmstead. The stations are intended to improve rainfall variability data and operational decisions such as winter roads work and to support research into internal seiche effects on nearshore water mixing.
The Water Resources Council said the project was funded in part by a New York State Department of State grant with local matching funds from the town of Canandaigua and other program contributions. Staff noted one remaining unit will be placed in Gorham once highway crews install the foundation; members discussed possibilities for expanding sensors (soil moisture, in-water sensors) in future phases.
