Multiple planning and code topics were discussed in the Aug. 13 Garden City Town Council meeting, including height limits, short-term rental signage, sale-of-town-property thresholds and a proposed gas station site.
On Ordinance #26-22 (exceptions to height limitations) members discussed removing 'theater lofts' from the text and moving 'silos' into another subsection; there was disagreement about setting a numeric height threshold and a recommendation to check the proposed language against the town master plan. Mayor Pat Argyle noted that short-term rentals have been using large banners in violation of GC Code 11C-602 and the council agreed to uphold the existing prohibition. Council Member Brad Davis said state code defaults to $500,000 as a threshold for public-auction requirements when selling city land and recommended the town update its ordinance to define a 'significant parcel.'
Separately, a proposal to site a gas station where the Salty Bear restaurant sits prompted traffic-safety concerns from Council Member Davis, who worried about left-turn conflicts at 100 W and Highway 89. The council took no final regulatory action but asked staff to return with drafted ordinance language and further analysis.
