Corporal Concha reported that National Night Out had one of the best turnouts in recent years and said police and staff are following up on complaints about electric bicycles and scooters. The corporal said the town website now includes laws about ebikes, e-scooters and electric dirt bikes and that staff plan an educational event at the library for parents and riders.
"The National Night Owl was a huge success... I heard it came up during the candidate's questions about the ebikes and e scooters. So I've actually been working with Sean and Crystal. And Crystal actually just put up on the town website, the laws regarding ebikes, e scooters, or e dirt bikes, which are not legal to be used on the road," the corporal said.
The corporal noted concern about electric dirt bikes that lack brakes and can reach high speeds, and said staff will try to bring hospital representatives to discuss juvenile traumatic injuries linked to such vehicles. Commissioners asked whether helmet rules apply and requested that outreach emphasize visible clothing for riders and helmet use for juveniles.
The board requested staff continue education and consider enforcement options where public safety risks are identified.
