The Midlothian City Council on Sept. 9 unanimously ratified a finding that the fiscal-year 2026 27 budget will raise more property-tax revenue than the previous year. Councilman Weaver moved the motion to ratify a revenue increase of $5,560,152 (12.19%), and Mayor Pro Tem Wickliffe seconded; the council voted 7-0.
Anne, a city staff member, told the council the separate ratification vote is required under state law. She cited "local government code section 102.007(c)" as the authority requiring a separate vote when a budget will collect more property-tax revenue than the prior year. In answer to a council question, staff and the speaking council member characterized about $5,001,958 of the increase as coming from new property added to the tax roll and roughly $560,000 from existing properties, described in the meeting as about 90% new/10% existing.
No public comments were offered on the item. The council approved the ratification motion by recorded vote.
