Michelle Bridal and David Cruz presented a first reading of several policy updates and additions; no action was requested at this meeting. Bridal emphasized the immigration‑enforcement policy (KNA) is new and districts must adopt a policy consistent with the Oregon attorney general’s model by Sept. 30.
"Each school district is required to adopt a policy consistent with the Oregon attorney general's model by September 30 this year," Bridal said, explaining KNA would require broad notifications when federal immigration officials are confirmed on district property, designation of a primary contact for enforcement visits, and training requirements for staff. Bridal told the board the district will provide the training ("There is no funding. So the district will be providing that training") and work with the Oregon Department of Education on implementation.
Other first‑read items included policy EBB (integrated pest management) to align with state law requiring posting of the plan and board readoption every five years; ECAA (access to buildings) noting panic‑alarm considerations when reviewing school security; DBEA clarifying budget committee membership requirements; GBA updating equal employment opportunity language including hiring preference for state service members; and updates to harassment and Title IX language in GBNJBA.
Board members asked about who is trained and the training sequence; Bridal said administrators will be trained next at the leadership meeting and then administrators will roll training out to their staff.
