Town staff presented the proposed 2027 budget of $83,402,315 and laid out a schedule for adoption, saying the council will hold a first reading followed by a public hearing ahead of a second reading on Sept. 24 and a third reading and final adoption on Oct. 8. "We're to the point of the 1st reading and then the notice of public hearing will go out and then the 2nd reading will be September 24 and then the October 8 meeting will be, 3rd reading and final adoption," the presenter said.
The presenter said staff cut roughly $7 million initially, then another $5 million, and trimmed additional items to reach the current request. They also flagged that the town will issue $19 million in lease-rental bonds to design and construct consolidated street and police facilities for equipment storage and training. Council members asked for clarification on specific cuts and on next steps for public review; staff said the formal hearings provide the opportunity for public comment.
