Cindy Ming, Miami County director of finance, presented the August managerial and labor distribution reports to the commission, saying the county is collecting about 90% of budgeted general fund revenues while expenses are pacing near 62–64%.
Ming said the county had recently placed $15 million into a CD and anticipates a partial payout around the first week of December; she described several reserve funds (economic development, equipment/tech, building, retirement) as healthy but said the county has been drawing down cash and needs to watch expenditures. She noted the motor vehicle registration fee change that started July 1 and explained the treasurer can set a processing fee up to $5 but that raising it further to $10 would require a commission resolution.
Ming told the commission that 34 county vehicles were damaged in a hailstorm and that property damage to courthouse and jail buildings is estimated at about $330,000; staff will return in roughly two weeks with a vehicle‑by‑vehicle insurance recommendation and pictures to help commissioners decide which vehicles to repair, sell, or keep under fleet coverage. Commissioners expressed concern about recurring expenditure outpacing revenue in some areas and asked staff to present targeted recommendations.
