District operations staff described immediate measures to keep school operations running when stormwater backs up into interior spaces. The administration said they met with Aramark and school administrators to prepare contingency plans for feeding students, including closing half of the cafeteria and relocating lunch service to the auditorium if necessary. “We can shut down 0.5 of the cafeteria while it's being cleaned up. We can relocate to the auditorium,” a district staff member said.
Facilities staff listed equipment and monitoring added since the incidents: extra shop vacs that can discharge outdoors, squeegees, an additional dehumidifier for the athletic director’s office, removal of affected carpet and installation of VCT, on‑site access to ABM’s large extraction equipment, and a camera and sensor installed in a mechanical closet to alert staff to water presence. Staff said cleanup time for the most recent large storm required roughly four hours of combined ABM and facilities labor.
Board members asked about air quality and mold testing; staff said they would order air quality tests after any future flood to confirm mitigation success. The district said it will continue to refine operating plans and return to the facilities committee with CHA’s engineering findings and recommended remediation steps.
