The City Commission of Key West voted to set the FY2026–27 ad valorem municipal millage at the rolled-back rate of 1.8848 mills after a first-reading motion Wednesday.
Christina Prevaldi, who presented the proposal to the commission, said the 1.8848 mills figure represents no increase over the rolled-back rate and that revenue collections will be “very, very similar to what was collected in this current year.” Carrie Baker, executive director of the QS Chamber of Commerce, told the commission she appreciated staff’s work but urged officials to weigh requests for new ongoing services against long-term impacts on taxpayers: “Before adding significant ongoing expenses, we encourage the commission to consider whether those services are truly a priority,” she said.
Commissioner Chenara Rossi moved to approve the millage at rollback; Commissioner Castillo seconded. After discussion about bond-related millage and the possible effect of a homestead exemption amendment, the clerk called the roll and the ordinance first-reading motion passed unanimously.
