Principals at elementary and secondary schools told the board the district is focusing on reading and targeted interventions this year, including implementing individualized reading plans (IRPs) for K-3 students who score below benchmarks.
One principal said the district anticipates significant IRP load: "We're planning on between 80 to a 100 IRRPs, which is they're they're pretty intensive documents," and explained teachers will develop the plans and the district is structuring supports to avoid imposing undue burdens on classroom instruction. Other principals described LETRS training already delivered to teachers, new paraprofessionals and support staff, and grant-funded positions that enable music and behavior programs.
Principals also reported classroom-size improvements due to recent hires and renovations, and described school-specific curriculum changes such as adding a 6th-grade honors math option and introducing new reading programs and Panorama data tools to guide instruction.
