The Board of Trustees of Damon Independent School District approved the district's FY 2026'27 budget and adopted a maintenance-and-operations (M&O) tax rate of $0.701100 per $100 of taxable valuation during its Aug. 28, 2026 regular meeting.
During a public hearing opened and closed by motions recorded in the minutes, the board voted 5-0 to adopt a General Fund budget of $2,460,528 and a Child Nutrition Fund budget of $123,000. The motion to adopt the tax rate was made by President Helen Noble, who stated, "I move that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of $0.7011 per $100 valuation for Maintenance and Operations (M&O)." The motion passed 5-0.
The district's tax-rate calculation worksheet included in the agenda packet shows the No-New-Revenue (NNR) tax rate calculated as $0.566326 per $100 and a voter-approval tax rate of $0.701100 per $100. The board's adopted M&O rate equals the voter-approval rate reported in the worksheet. The agenda and public notice included the required comparisons and figures under state truth-in-taxation rules.
Board members and staff emphasized procedural compliance: the board first designated the Brazoria County Tax Assessor-Collector to calculate the NNR and VATR, then held the public hearing and adopted the budget and tax rate in open session. The board recorded unanimous votes on the budget and tax-rate motions.
Next steps noted in the minutes include the filing of adopted rates and budget information with county and state offices and routine budgetary adjustments as collections are finalized.
