District and construction staff updated the board on multiple project fronts: demolition in gym and locker rooms, foundation and slab work, roofing overlays, and schedule milestones for opening spaces for use.
Ryan Dempsey of Campus Project Management described completed demolition of interior partitions, removal of equipment and mechanical systems, and ongoing concrete slab cuts in preparation for foundations. He said new sanitary piping has been installed and pressure-tested, with foundation pours starting the following week. The team reported discovery of additional asbestos behind tile and mastic in locker-room walls, requiring abatement work that raised costs by roughly $20,000 but was expected to be managed within the overall project budget.
On roofing, contractors reported completing roughly 75% of the current section being worked on — the pool/auditorium/cafeteria/lobby area — which represents about 33% of the district's overall roof area. Board members discussed possible scope expansion if dollars become available later in the project.
District staff set operational expectations: the new locker rooms are targeted for turnover by the end of November, and the universal pre-K space takeover is planned for March so pre-K classes will start in the spring rather than at the beginning of the school year. Administrators said they are tracking budget impacts and will report cost and schedule details at ongoing OACM meetings.
