Beaufort County Library Director Amanda Dickman told trustees the library made Transparent Language available to cardholders on August 3. She said the platform is free to active Beaufort County Library cardholders and can be accessed via web or an app; since launch 384 people have created accounts and users have completed just under 1,600 courses.
Trustees suggested targeted outreach to the school district and language teachers to increase usage; Dickman said Literacy Together partners and media specialists from local schools will be invited to the Literacy Together convening on Sept. 24 to hear about the resource. A trustee noted the platform also supports American Sign Language lessons, and the board discussed making the resource widely known to community partners and language instructors.
"Since then, we've had 384 people create accounts and begin using the resource, and they've completed just under 1,600 courses," Dickman said during the presentation. The board asked staff to prioritize messaging to schools and local media specialists during upcoming professional development events.
