A Broward Sheriff's Office lieutenant told the Tamarac commission on Sept. 9 that August saw an overall decrease in Part I offenses from 91 to 80 compared with the same month last year, driven by an 18% reduction in property crimes and a 44% drop in auto thefts. The lieutenant said violent crimes rose modestly (from 19 to 21 offenses) and that most incidents have identified suspects with charges pending.
Traffic enforcement increased: deputies issued 1,794 citations in August (about a 13% increase), while total crashes fell by approximately 38%. The lieutenant highlighted a 44% rise in park 'walk-and-talk' community contacts (657→948) and described a focus on data-driven deployment of traffic and crime-suppression resources. Commissioners asked about local marketing and outreach capacity for community programs; BSO said the Tamarac district maintains its own social channels and outreach initiatives.
