At the start of the Sept. 9 meeting the commission read several proclamations recognizing community health and anti‑hunger efforts. Commissioner Dr. Keisha Daniel and Vice Mayor Marlon Bolton sponsored a Hunger Action Month proclamation and vice mayor Bolton presented proclamations for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Representatives from Feeding South Florida thanked the commission and reported distributing nearly 600,000 meals and serving more than 5,000 families in Tamarac over the last year, and announced a Thanksgiving dinner in partnership with the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. Beth Ann Fraser, founder of the Live Like Tom Foundation, described caregiver assistance and said the group has helped 12 families and distributed more than $100,000 in direct financial support since 2022. Roxanne Chambers, a branch leader at Truist, received a Community Hero Award for intervening to stop a senior from being defrauded of more than $15,000. Commissioners also pledged financial support to local sickle‑cell organizations pending administrative steps that would permit check issuance.
