County Executive announced two appointments to the Kansas City Tax Increment Financing (TIF) commission: Legislator Sean Smith and Assistant County Administrator Darren Fristo as Jackson County’s representatives. "I appointed legislator Sean Smith and the assistant County administrator Darren Fristo to be our members of Jackson County on the TIF commission," the County Executive said.
A legislator who attended the TIF commission meeting reported that the commission recommended approval of the downtown plan but, over his objection, did not correct documents that understate county tax losses. He said parcels likely to be condemned and converted to city property currently generate about $190,000 per year in county tax revenue and urged further review and public engagement before the city council acts.
