The Butler County commissioners read a proclamation recognizing Jerome Edward Kearns, the late assistant director of Butler County Job and Family Services, and offered condolences to his family. The proclamation listed Kearns's service to the county and the region, his education and his work on local workforce and school boards.
The proclamation said, in part, “And Jerome was instrumental in forging a partnership among Job and Family Services, the sheriff and the prosecutors offices in 2012 that saved taxpayers $17,000,000 in 3 years by detecting and arresting fraudulent food stamps users.” The board noted his leadership on workforce efforts, his role on the Fairfield City Board of Education and his work to improve youth services. The commissioners — Cindy Carpenter, TC Rogers and Donald L. Dixon — signed the resolution honoring Kearns.
The board invited family members and county colleagues to the meeting; following the proclamation the chair moved on to year-end finance presentations.
