A county staff member told the Ontario County Public Safety Committee the 2026 expenditure line for NMS services is nearly depleted after the county received invoices in 2026 for work performed in summer 2025.
"We're asking to get us through the end of the year for the additional, $100,000," the staff member said, noting the county budgeted $200,000 for the year and that as of Aug. 28, 2026 the account showed $182 and $53.93 remaining. The presentation said some invoices arrived late from the vendor and that prior lines of communication with the previous administration were "nonexistent."
Committee members pressed staff on invoice verification and whether the county intended to continue using NMS. The staff member said repeated requests had been made to the vendor for unpaid invoices and that the county is pursuing alternative providers and internal controls. "Anytime a case needs to go to NMS, they need to reach out to our office for approval," the staff member said, describing a new screening policy intended to curb unnecessary expenditures.
The committee did not record a detailed roll call tied to this request in the transcript; members discussed verifying disputed charges and the possibility of disputing invoices that cannot be substantiated. The staff member said the $100,000 request was likely conservative and may not be fully used but was meant to provide a buffer through year-end.
