Dalton Simpson urged the board to inspect drainage and grading problems at Stradley Baseball Fields in Cocoa, saying repeated flooding is creating safety hazards and preventing maintenance and use.
"This is about more than wet grass or field looking bad. This is about a public facility that our Children, families, coaches and community are supposed to be able to use safely," Simpson said, requesting that the department responsible inspect conditions and provide the community with a plan and timeline to correct the problem. A staff member (Jim) and parks staff were identified as follow-up contacts; the chair and staff encouraged Simpson to meet Ian Goedner after his remarks.
Why it matters: the fields serve youth, families and community leagues; prolonged drainage problems can increase maintenance costs and reduce public access. Simpson's comments were recorded in the public hearing and staff follow-up was offered; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
